Doralene June Kamper

Doralene June Kamper, 74, of Grand Island died Wednesday night February 24, 2010 at Saint Francis Medical Center surrounded by her family.

Service will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday, March 1, at Assembly of God Church in Grand Island. Pastor Mark Oberbeck will officiate. The family is honoring Doralene’s wish to be cremated. All Faiths Funeral Home is serving the family.

Burial of ashes will be the following day Tuesday, March 2nd at 2:00 p.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery, Palmer, Nebraska.

Doralene was born April 17, 1935, at Grand Island the daughter of Harry and Wilma (Hurley) Lilienthal.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 54 years, Lyle Kamper; son, Timothy kamper of St. Cloud, Minnesota; daughters and sons-in-law, Kimberlee and John Brady of Eden, UT and Karen Kamper Baugh and Mark Baugh of Burwell, NE; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ron Lilienthal of Doniphan, Robert Lilienthal of Grand Island, Harry Jr. and Wanda Lilienthal of Grand Island and Dennis and Jana Lilienthal of Doniphan; sister, Robyn Ann Kamper of Grand Island and sister-in-law, Hak Sun Lilienthal of Texas.

She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Christopher Brady, Jonathan Brady, Kimber Anne Brady, Amber June Brady, Holly Dolly Puente, Hayes Kamper and Wyatt Kamper and two great grandchildren, Mya Song Brady and Michael August DJ Schroeder. Also multiple nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Wilma Elizabeth and Harry Lilienthal, two brothers, Lyle Lilienthal, David Lilienthal and brother-in-law, Jim Kamper.

Doralene grew up and received her education in Grand Island, graduating from Grand Island Senior High.

She was united in marriage to Lyle Kamper on June 24, 1955 in Grand Island. Following their marriage the couple made Grand Island their home. At one time Doralene was employed by the Grand Island Ordinance Plant and was the first woman member of the Union Carpenters at the Ordinance Plant. She was proud of that accomplishment, not just for herself but for all women.

She loved gardening, fishing and camping. She was ‘Dora the Explorer’; Doralene enjoyed hiking and any adventure. She was an avid reader and always enjoyed ‘Art in the Park’. Above all, Doralene loved to spend time with her grandchildren.
