Kenneth "Butch" Lilienthal

Kenneth “Butch” Lilienthal, 69, died Wednesday January 6, 2010 at Saint Francis Medical Center in Grand Island

Memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 9th, in All Faiths Funeral Home Chapel.  Dan Naranjo will officiate.  Burial of ashes will be at a later date April 10th, in the Chapman Cemetery.

Mr. Lilienthal was born on September 23, 1940 at Laramie, Wyoming, the son of Ray and Pauline (May) Lilienthal.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Dorothy; daughters and son-in-law, Sherri Lilienthal and friend Mark Sheets and Sondra and Neal Schroeder; son and daughter-in-law, Stan and Kim Lilienthal, all of Grand Island; and brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Waneta Lilienthal of Greeley, CO.

He is also survived by four grandchildren, Tessa and Tjaden Schroder and Wyatt and Collin Lilienthal and nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Butch was raised at Father Flanagan’s Boys Town in Omaha, NE, until his sophomore year.  He then went to live with an aunt and uncle in Chapman and graduated from Grand Island Senior High, class of 1959.

He was united in marriage to Dorothy Jean Husmann on October 14, 1961, in Chapman.  Following their marriage the couple resided in Greeley, CO, moving to Chapman and then a final move to Grand Island in 1973.  Butch was employed by Redman’s, then by New Holland from which he retired in 1999, after 32 years of service.

Butch was a member of Platt Duetsch and VFW Sons of the Legion.  He played bass guitar in his band, the ‘G.I. Country Express’ with his daughter, Sherrie, as lead singer.  He enjoyed bowling, playing golf, camping and especially his family and friends.  Butch loved life and his memory will be treasured by many.

Memorials are suggested to the National Niemann-Pick Disease Foundation for Dementia or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
