Dr. James V. Reiss

Dr. James V. Reiss, 73, of Grand Island, died Saturday June 5, 2010 at Saint Francis Skilled Care surrounded by his loving family. 

Service will be 7 p.m. Friday, June 11 th at St. Pauls Lutheran Church.  Reverend Randy Fett will officiate. 

All Faiths Funeral Home is serving the family.

Dr. Reiss was born December 15, 1936 at Kansas City, Missouri the son of Theodore and Edith (Peterson) Reiss.

Survivors include his wife Judy; son and daughter-in-law, Nick and Amy Reiss of Lincoln; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Jeremy Redmond of Windsor, Colorado and sister and brother-in-law, Ginger and Ernest See of Sharon Springs, Kansas.

Those also left to cherish his memory are his grandchildren, Jack and Samuel Reiss and Cooper Redmond; sister-in-law, Fran Reiss of Weskan, KS and sister-in-law and her husband, Jan and Art Krueger of Westminster, CO.  His parents and twin brother, Jerroll and infant brother, Donald welcomed him into heaven.

Jim was raised on a family farm near Weskan, Kansas where he graduated from high school in 1955.  He received his bachelors’ degree from Fort Hays and attended the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, KS.  He served a one year internship at El Paso, Texas.  Jim entered the United States Army during the Vietnam War having served two years in Panama.  Later Jim had four years of surgery training at Kansas City General.

He was united in marriage to Judy Reece on November 7, 1970.  They made Grand Island their home in 1972 where Jim was a general surgeon and was in general practice at the Grand Island Clinic.  Dr. Reiss retired in 2000. 

Memberships included St. Pauls Lutheran Church and Grand Island Modelers Club.  From the age of 15, Jim enjoyed flying model airplanes having competed across the nation and making many friends.    

Memorials are suggested to St. Pauls Lutheran Church or ‘GRACE’ Grand Island Area Cancer Endowment.
