Lee "Ike" Simons
Ira Lee ‘Ike’ Simons, 72, of Grand Island, died Thursday,
August 19, 2010, at his home with his family by his side.
Service will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 24, in All Faiths Funeral
Home Chapel. Dan Naranjo will officiate. Cremation has taken
place. Burial of ashes will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in Fort
McPherson National Cemetery, with military honors.
There will be no visitation.
Ike was born on July 8, 1938 in Grand Island, the son of LeRoy and
Rose ( Kent) Simons.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Lorraine; sons and
daughters-in-law, Kevin and Jill Simons of Grand Island, Kurtis Simons
of Grand Island and Kenneth and Janet Simons of Cairo; daughter and son-in-law,
Lorrie and Tom Nowicki of Grand Island; brothers, Danny Simons and Willard
Simons, both of Lincoln, Howard Simons of Grand Island and Leo Dean Simons
of Boelus; sisters, Doris Roberts of Lincoln and Gerry Bolt of California;
foster sister, Linda Saatman of Aurora; eleven grandchildren, Meghan,
Mandy, Marlee, Kaitlyn, Kevin James, Kenneth Jr., C. J., Kati, Michelle,
Jennifer and Laura; and a great-grandson, Kole.
He was welcomed into heaven by his parents, a sister, three brothers
and a foster sister.
Ike grew up and received his education in Grand Island. He served
his country with the United States Army and was honorably discharged
on November 1, 1957. Ike was united in marriage to Lorraine Janice
Eggers on July 14, 1959. Following their marriage, the couple made
Grand Island their home.
Ike worked in construction, barbequed commercially, was employed by
Swift and also sold firewood. He was a member of American Legion. He
enjoyed fishing, camping and loved to barbeque.
