R. Volf
Joan R. Volf, 66, of Phillips, died Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at Wedgewood
Care Center in Grand Island after a courageous battle with cancer.
Service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 24, 2010 in All Faiths Funeral
Home Chapel. Dan Naranjo will officiate. Cremation has taken
place. Her family is honoring her wish to have her ashes scattered
at one of her favorite places.
A gathering of family and friends will be one hour prior to the service.
Joan was born on May 17, 1944, at North Bend, NE, the daughter of Irwin
and Ruth (Mehaffey) Vopalensky.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Maylon ‘Catfish’ Volf;
son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Sarah Volf of Basalt, CO; daughter
and son-in-law, Pamela and Kelly Steckelberg of Lincoln; brother and
sister-in-law, John and JoAnn Vopalensky of Placentia, CA; two sisters
and brothers-in-law, Diane and John Murphy of Firth, NE and Marcia and
Gary Miller of Surprise, AZ; and three grandchildren, Samuel Volf and
Ashton and Trenton Steckelberg.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Joan grew up and received her education in Morse Bluff, NE; graduating
from North Bend High School. She went on to attend Grand Island
School of Business.
Joan was united in marriage to Maylon Allan ‘Catfish’ Volf
on August 31, 1963 at North Bend, NE.
Following their marriage the couple made their home in Phillips. Joan
was employed at Gillette’s Dairy and more recently with Roberts
Dairy. With her husband, she owned and operated Catfish’s
Bar and Restaurant in Phillips. Joan was a previous volunteer and board
member with the “NEAT” Program (NE Equine Assisted Therapy)
located in Phillips.
Joan was happiest when involved with her grandchildren in their projects
and sports. She really enjoyed working horses with her granddaughter.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established Joan’s
name.
