Gladys Leona Williams

Gladys Leona Williams, 91, of Grand Island, died Saturday, January 23, 2010 surrounded by her family.

A celebration of her life service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at All Faiths Funeral Home.  The Reverend Lonnie Logan will officiate.  A family interment is planned in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Gladys was born March 22, 1918 at Cushing, NE the daughter of Isam and Lena Sailing.  She spent her childhood in Cushing and moved to Grand Island as a young woman.  She was united in marriage to Hayward Williams on September 12, 1942.  Following their marriage they made their home in Grand Island.

Four children were born of this union.  She was a devoted homemaker.  She was a life long member of Trinity United Methodist Church serving as a leader of the women’s circle.  She volunteered at the Grand Generation Center for many years.  Gladys loved to play cards and bingo and loved to travel.  She enjoyed sewing for her grandchildren.  She loved to cook for her family and friends but her biggest enjoyment in life was her family.

She brought much joy to our lives and we were blessed to have her as our mother.  Those left to cherish her memory are her children and their spouses, Don and Mary Williams, Arlene and Ben Wassinger, Karen and John McPhillips and Debra J. and Vern Regier and her grandchildren, Dr. Stephen Wassinger, Tom Wassinger, Amy Hill, Rick Williams, John McPhillips, Melissa McPhillips, Jason Regier, James Regier, Jeremy Regier and ten great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Hayward, granddaughter, Dawn Michelle Williams, two sisters and her parents.

Memorials are suggested to Trinity United Methodist Church or Asera Care Hospice.
