Mary Luna
Irene Mary Luna, 93 of Grand Island, died Thursday, February 10, 2011
at Tiffany Square Care Center with her family by her side.
Memorial Service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic
Church. The Reverend Mark A. Maresh will officiate. Burial
of ashes will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Gathering of family and friends will be from 6-7 p.m. Sunday with a
Rosary at 7 p.m. at All Faiths Funeral Home.
Mrs. Luna was born May 18, 1917 at El Paso, Texas the daughter of Filemon
and Constancia (Ramirez) Rosales.
Survivors include seven daughters and spouses, Irene Antillon and Judy
and Wayne Foster of Grand Island, Linda Guardiola and Patty Luna of Omaha,
Gloria Bruner, Deborah Luna and Vicky and Mike Peterman of Lincoln; two
sons, John Luna, Jr. of Denver, CO and Ruben and Liz Luna of Grand Island;
and daughter-in-law, Carmen Luna of Grand Island.
Other survivors are many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was welcomed into heaven by her husband, John Luna, Sr.; sons,
Richard, Robert and Henry; five sisters, Racquel Reynaga, Susie Gonzales,
Josie Huerta, Rae Medal and Esther Rosales and brother, Manuel Rosales.
She was educated in Cokedale, Colorado and Gibbon, Nebraska. She
was united in marriage to John J. Luna on August 28, 1937 at Kearney. They
lived in Kearney until moving to Grand Island in 1947.
Irene has lived a loving and meaningful life spent with her family. The
annual family picnic in June has given her and her family many memorable
memories. While able, she aided for the school system as a grandparent;
served on the Board of Directors of the Grand Generation Center; and
a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and Altar Society.
Memorials are suggested to the library at Lincoln Elementary School
in Grand Island.
