R. Blaine Thompson, 92, of Grand Island, died Monday, December 19,
2011 at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be held on Friday, December 23, 2011 at All Faiths Funeral
Home Chapel in Grand Island. Dan Naranjo will officiate. Burial will
be in the Grand Island City Cemetery with military honors.
Visitation will be one hour prior to service time.
Blaine was born August 8, 1919 near Loup City, the son of Roscoe C.
and Urith (Burnell) Thompson. When he was eight years old, his family
moved to Grand Island where he attended school.
He was united in marriage to Irma Horst on August 1, 1942 at Messiah
Lutheran Church in Grand Island. Blaine worked for the Thompson Company
for 42 years as a warehouseman and salesman. He also served in the U.S.
Army for 38 months during World War II, stationed in Fort Knox, Kentucky.
Blaine was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, the Liederkranz, Platt
Duetsch, American Legion, the Saddle Club and UCT. He enjoyed bowling,
playing pool, cards and gardening. His wife Irma preceded him in death
Those left to cherish his memory are his sons and their spouses, Murray
and Debb Thompson, Mark and Cindy Thompson, and Max and Angie Thompson
all of Grand Island; nine grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren.
He was welcomed into heaven by his wife; parents; daughter, Margaret ‘Maggie’ Thompson;
son, Martin B. Thompson; sisters, Bernice Williams, Belva Roney and Beryl
Poore; and brothers, Bernard L. ‘Tommy’ and Louis ‘Bud’ Thompson.
In lieu of flowers memorials are to be made to the Maggie Thompson
Memorial Scholarship through the Goodwill Scholarship Fund.
