John M. Tobin
John M. Tobin, 76 of Grand Island, died Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at St. Francis Medical Center.
Celebration of life service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at All Faiths Funeral Home. The Reverend Dr. Scott Taylor will officiate. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors provided by the U.S. Marine Corp and the United Veterans Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Sunday at All Faiths Funeral Home.
Mr. Tobin was born January 30, 1936 at Bancroft, Iowa the son of John J. and Jessie (Buckles) Tobin.
Survivors are his wife of 53 years, Linda; son and daughter-in-law, Carl and Kim Tobin of Lincoln and daughter and son-in-law, Marlene and Rod Barnes of Crete; sisters and brothers-in-law, Pat and Paul Schnell of Ruthven, IA, Precilla and Dale Zaugg of Emmetsburg, IA and Kathleen Tobin of Rockford, Illinois; sister-in-law, Ruth Tobin of Lewisville, TX; brothers-in-law and their spouses, Richard Shriner of Grand Island, Michael and Sheryl Shriner of Grand Island and David and Laura Shriner of Wichita, KS.
Other survivors are grandchildren, Clifton, Andrew, Carl Jr., Jesse and Christopher Tobin and Troy and his wife Ashley Barnes and Brandie Barnes and thirteen great-grandchildren.
His parents; sisters and brothers, Mabel Smith, Dorothy Colons, Jim Tobin and Roger Tobin preceded him in death.
John was raised and received his education at Emmetsburg, Iowa. He served in the United States Marine Corp from 1953-1956. On November 1, 1958 he was united in marriage to Linda Shriner. They made their home in Grand Island where John worked for 6 years at Christianson Concrete. He retired following 36 years of service from Berkley Sta Rite in 2000.
John is a member of the First Christian Church, Eagles, VFW and the Platt Duetsche. Some of John’s enjoyments included, camping, fishing, dancing, cards, domino’s and slot machines; most of all he enjoyed life.
A memorial fund will be established in memory of John.
