Alfred R. Kuszak Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Alfred R. Kuszak, 77, of Grand Island passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at Grand Island Regional Center with his family by his side. After a courageous battle with cancer, he went home to be with his Lord. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at All Faiths Funeral Home. There will be a private Rosary and Service for the family held at the funeral home. Alfred was born November 30, 1944, in Loup City, Nebraska, the son of Paul and Dorothea (Engel) Kuszak. He attended school in Ashton, NE. Following school, Alfred worked for Knifler Honey Farms in Riverside, CA and then Redman and Geer Mobile Homes in Grand Island. For several years, he worked at Mormon Island and retired from the Nebraska Department of Roads after 27 years of service. On December 23, 1967, Alfred married the love of his life, Joy Barnes in Grand Island. They were blessed with two daughters Joan (Paul) Pfeifer of Aurora and Jenny (Tony) Empfield of Grand Island; and five grandchildren, Derek, Travis and Kristen Pfeifer and Alyssa and Addison Empfield. Alfred loved gardening and sharing his produce with others. He also enjoyed spending time at the family farm along the North Loup River and having family picnics and Christmas Eve at the farmhouse. Almost every Fall, Alfred and Joy would pack up their camper and travel to the southwest, including California. They would eventually make their way back home to Nebraska. Most of all, Alfred enjoyed spending time with his family, and visiting with neighbors and friends. He loved going to his grandkid’s activities, playing pool with his sons-in-law and grandsons, and attending the Kolache shootout every year in Elba. He was also an avid coin collector, enjoyed his polka music and The Bee Gees, and always had his 7:00 a.m. daily coffee at Lee’s Restaurant with his good friend, Chuck Carpenter. Those who will cherish his memory include his wife, Joy; his daughters and their spouses; and his grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law, David “Sam” and Carol Kuszak of Loup City; two sisters, Frances Leach of Morrison, CO and Sharon (Alan) McVay of Beatrice; numerous nephews and nieces; and his beloved cat, Toby. He was preceded in death by his parents, half-brother; Arnold Kuszak; half-sister; Irene Frederick, brother-in-law; Dennis Leach, and father and mother- in-law; Everett and Lillian Barnes.
