Arlene Marie (Hurt) Knott of Grand Island passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at Grand Island Regional Medical Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at 10 am at St. Leo’s Catholic Church, with Father Mark Maresh officiating. Visitation will be on Monday, April 25, 2022 from 5-7 pm, at All Faiths Funeral Home. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery following the service. Arlene was born on November 13, 1927, on the family farm near Ashton, NE, the daughter of Edward and Anna (Jerabek) Hurt. She attended a country school and graduated from Ashton High School in 1947. She married Lyle Knott on August 26, 1947 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Farwell. Arlene was a member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church and the Alter Society in Grand Island, and a lifetime member of the Military Order of Purple Heart Auxiliary #632. Arlene worked full time with her husband Lyle and sons Ron and Randy, in their Business, Knott’s Auction, and was instrumental in developing their “New and Used Furniture” store, selling antiques, floor coverings, and building materials for 55 years until the store sold in 2004. Early on, she and Lyle also owned and operated the U-Need-A-Rest motel. In her spare time, she and Lyle enjoyed traveling together, including fishing trips to Canada, and numerous trips to Las Vegas and Council Bluffs. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as caring for her flowers and pets. Both Arlene and Lyle were members of the Grand Island Liederkranz, Platt Deutsche, and Saddle Club; and volunteered, with Lyle calling bingo at the G.I. Vets Home. Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Ron and Solveig (Lindblom) Knott, and Randy and Teri (Quandt) Knott, both of Grand Island; four grandchildren, William Yeung, Angela Golas, Tim and Jeremy Knott; five great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; cousins; extended family members; and good neighbors and friends. Arlene was preceded in death by the love of her life, husband, Lyle Knott; her parents; brothers, Louie and Daniel Hurt; sister, Agnes Kaslon; and grandson, Eric Knott. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
