Cynthia Ann "Cindy" Smith

July 12, 1953 - November 2, 2021

Cynthia “Cindy” Ann Smith, 68, of Grand Island, passed away on Tuesday, November 2, 2021. Service and celebration of Cynthia’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at True North Church. Burial will follow in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at All Faiths Funeral Home. Cindy was born July 12, 1953 in Grand Island, the daughter of Robert and Viola (Rudnick) Green. She grew up in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island Senior High, class of 1971. Cindy worked for her mother at a collection agency for several years before pursuing her nursing career. She graduated from Mary Lanning Nursing School in Hastings. Her primary employment was with the Grand Island Veterans Home, although she was employed at Lakeview and Park Place also. Compassionate and kind, Cindy loved taking care of the veterans. Cindy married Ignasio "Mike" Valdez and two children were born to this union, Michael and Andrea. On August 30, 1991, Cindy married her best friend, Dennis Smith. She was always happy to be riding with Dennis on his Harley. They traveled many, many miles together. Together they also enjoyed camping and quilting. Spending time with her beloved grandchildren was always the highlight of her day. Cindy loved animals and had several of her own fur babies. She also enjoyed cooking and made the best coffeecake. Those who will cherish her memory include her husband of 30 years, Dennis; children, Michael Valdez (Alexi Zalud) and Andrea (Josh) Lane, all of Grand Island; and grandchildren, Madison Lane, Malerie Lane, Sydney Lane, Delaney Valdez, Emma Valdez, Mackenzie Valdez and Nova Valdez. She is also survived by her siblings, Rob Green of Superior, Brad (Teri) Green of Grand Island, Kelly Green (Kathy Zuick) of Lincoln and Tracy (Eric) Bicknase of Grand Island; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents; all of her aunts and uncles; and several cousins. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to True North Church or Central Nebraska Humane Society.
