Dolores S. Muhs

March 4, 1933 - January 30, 2022

Dolores S. Muhs, 88, of Grand Island passed away on Sunday, January 30, 2022. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 5th, at St. Mary’s Cathedral. Burial will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. Friday at All Faiths Funeral Home. Rosary will be held at 7:00. Dolores was born on a farm between Ashton and Farwell on March 4, 1933, to Joseph and Eleanor (Kosmicki) Stefanowicz. She received her education at Pablin, St. Libory and graduated from St. Paul High School, class of 1950. On November 13, 1951, Dolores married Donald H. Muhs. At the time she was employed by Northwestern Western Bell Telephone. When Donald entered the service in 1953, he was stationed in San Antonio, TX, and Dolores moved there with him. When they moved back to Grand Island following his discharge, she went back to work for the phone company until 1969. Following the birth of both sons, Dolores became a full-time wife and mother. She volunteered at Dodge School until 1978. She then became a teacher’s aide for Special Education at Connell School. From there she moved to Howard School until she retired in 1991. In 1977, Dolores was the first recipient of the Golden Apple Award for the Grand Island School System, nominated for her volunteer work at Dodge and numerous areas she had given of herself and her time. When she wasn’t volunteering for a community service, she enjoyed bowling and sewing, for herself and others. She was a member of St. Mary’s Cathedral and the Platt Duetsche. Those who will cherish her memory include her sons, David Muhs and his wife, Carrie of Mt. Pleasant, IA and Douglas Muhs of Grand Island; four grandchildren, Jordan Muhs, Jessica Muhs, Danielle Muhs and Dilan Zilliox; three great-grandchildren, Jacob Muhs-Corbisier, Kathryn Muhs and Nora Muhs; and nephew, Jerry Schwatz. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; parents; both older brothers, Richard Stefanowicz and Archie Stefanowicz; and her beloved toy poodle, London. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
