Drue Lee Bamesberger

November 2, 1961 - March 13, 2022

Drue L. Bamesberger, 60, of Omaha, formerly of Grand Island, Nebraska passed away on March 13, 2022 at home. A memorial service and celebration of Drue’s life will be at 11:00 am on Monday, March 21st at St. Pauls Lutheran Church with Reverend Bill Pavuk officiating. Burial of ashes will follow in Grand Island Cemetery. A gathering of friends and family will be from 3-5 pm Sunday, March 20th at All Faiths Funeral Home. Drue was born on November 2, 1961 in Grand Island, the son of Bill and Rae Jeanne “Babe” (Green) Bamesberger. He grew up in Grand Island, graduating from Grand Island Senior High class of 1980. His childhood was spent on ball fields and basketball courts from an early age. He played basketball, football, and legion baseball, excelling at all of them with many honors. He bled Islander Purple. Drue went on to attend Kearney State College where he played football. On October 5, 1991 Drue married Beth Garrelts, the mother of his two sons, Will and Joe. The family returned to their hometown of Grand Island in 1996. Drue could always be found at a ball field or on the golf course. He spent countless hours cheering on his sons, whether it be as a coach or from the stands. Drue taught them how to drive a golf ball, shoot a rifle, pitch a baseball, and love their dogs. Family vacations were spent skiing in Breckenridge and attending the College World Series, a tradition Will and Joe will carry on as part of Drue’s legacy. Drue was a lifelong Royals and Dallas Cowboys fan. He was a member of the Saddle Club, Platt-Duetsche, Riverside Golf Club, and St. Pauls Lutheran Church. He served on the Grand Island Little League and American Legion baseball boards for several years. He was passionate about the game of baseball and serving his community in that way. Drue returned to Omaha in 2017. Those left to cherish his memory are his mother, Babe Bamesberger of Grand Island; his sons, Will (Annalee) Bamesberger of Grand Island and Joe Bamesberger of Las Vegas; brothers Barry (Joy) Bamesberger of North Platte and Brett (Julie) Bamesberger of Grand Island; several nieces and nephews and countless friends and teammates. He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Bamesberger. Memorials are suggested to the family and will be forwarded on to benefit youth baseball in Grand Island.
