Joyce D. Noakes, 76 of Grand Island died Monday, March 29, 2021 at CHI Health-St. Francis. Services will be held at 1 PM Friday, April 2nd at Trinity Lutheran Church. Reverend Adam Snoberger will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM Thursday at All Faiths Funeral Home. To help protect others, facemasks are requested during the visitation and funeral service. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund will be established in memory of Joyce. Joyce was born on December 2, 1944 in Wood River the daughter of Elmer and Ann (Jacobson) Steffen. She grew up in St. Libory and graduated from Grand Island Senior High School. On December 14, 1963 she was united in marriage to Charles “Butch” Noakes. This union was blessed with three children. Joyce was a committed stay-at-home mom until Joe drove her back into the workforce. She worked at Dodge Elementary and then at the Central Nebraska Federal Credit Union where she was employed for 25 years. Memberships include Trinity Lutheran Church and the Platt Duetsche. Joyce also belonged to a poker club for over 55 years and loved playing keno with her friend Janet, cousin Louise, and Aunt Helen. There was nothing she treasured more than watching her grandchildren in all their activities and sneaking them money or candy depending on how many hits or points they had. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 57 years, Charles “Butch”; children, Todd (Brenda) Noakes of Lincoln, Kim (Mark) Gillespie of Holdrege and Joe (Karin) Noakes of Dannebrog; grandchildren, Justin (Annie) Noakes, Mallory (Landon) Schmidt, Jaci (Andrew) Davis, Jenna (Luke) Ackerman, Jill Gillespie, Jackson Noakes, Benjamin Noakes and Carter Noakes; great-grandchildren, Hadley Schmidt and Parker and Asher Davis and a brother, Leland (Marilyn) Steffen of Grand Island. She is preceded in death by her parents and grandson, Scott Gillespie.
