October 28, 1936 - March 8, 2022
Joyce Dee (Field) Webb, 85, died at her home on March 8, 2022, surrounded by family. The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 13, from 2-3 pm followed by a 3:00 pm funeral at All Faiths Funeral Home. Joyce will be laid to rest at the Omaha National Cemetery. Born in Perkins, Oklahoma, to Donald and Caroline (Ford) Field, shortly before her twin sister Janice, Joyce always put family first. Joyce met her husband, Charles Eugene “Gene” Webb, at a square dance and decided he was the one after he waited longer than her other suitors to offer her a ride home from school. They were united in marriage on August 3, 1953. Gene enlisted in the Army. They wrote to each other every day they were apart until Joyce boarded the Queen Mary to join Gene in Germany. They toured Europe with new friends. Joyce ran the household and finances. Always busy doing something or helping someone, she sewed the young family’s clothing, refinished wooden furniture, painted rooms, baked pies and was active in her children and grandchildren’s activities. Family was important to Joyce. Most vacation time was spent with their families in Oklahoma helping with the wheat harvest. She has fished in Canadian backwaters and toured Australia. The family settled in Grand Island in 1967 and began building their home in 1972. She and Gene did all the finishing work. In 1981 Joyce opened Country Stitchin’, a quilting and needlecraft shop, expanding to do custom framing with Webb’s Design Gallery. Joyce was active in Extension, 4-H, card clubs and a bowling league. She enjoyed dancing, scrapbooking and finding bargains and antiques at rummage sales. Joyce enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, helping them put on plays and organizing scavenger hunts. She traveled to see them as often as she could and always welcomed everyone home. Never happy with a quiet house, Gene and Joyce opened their home to student nurses and unofficially adopted several people from the community. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Gene; the couple’s four children, Kim and Duane Coates, Frostina and Jerry Nelson, all of Grand Island, Lynn and Darrell Heller of Lenexa, KS, and Kent and Linda of Omaha; also, fourteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren with another on the way. Memorials are suggested to Grand Island Alzheimer’s Association, 809 South Harrison St., Grand Island, Nebraska. In lieu of flowers, the family requests cards with fond memories of Joyce.
