Karla Lee Thompson

November 11, 1972 - May 17, 2021

Karla Lee Thompson, 48, of Grand Island passed away after a four-year battle with cancer on May 17, 2021. Services in her honor will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at Abundant Life Christian Church. Memorials are designated to the American Cancer Society. All Faiths Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements. Karla was born on November 11, 1972 at Great Bend, KS daughter of Roger and Marilyn (Foster) Smith. After attending school in Wichita, KS, Karla graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in 1992. Karla attended a year of college before she found her true passion and started an in-home daycare. She cared for many children that became her “kids” for 15 years. Recently, Karla was employed by Case New Holland, forming a family of friends with her fellow coworkers whom she loved. She retired shortly after her diagnosis. Her friendly smile and ready dance moves invited many into her large circle of friends. Karla stayed active attending her son’s sports, daughter’s Orchestra concerts, and going for walks with friends. She enjoyed her creative outlets of scrapbooking, decorating and cooking delicious meals for her family and friends. Karla always had a book with her, her love of reading was her way of living many lives as she was only given one. Karla is survived by her mother and caregiver, Marilyn Elder; children, William “Billy” (Kaylee Taylor) Thompson of Grand Island and Megan Thompson of New York, NY; grandson, Maddox Thompson; half-sister, Heather (Rob) Rowan of Hutchinson, KS; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that became family. She is preceded in death by her father, and stepfather, Bill Elder.
