Lewis H. Kroeger, 74, of Grand Island passed away on Saturday May 8th at CHI- Health St. Francis. Per his wishes, a funeral service will not be held, however a celebration will be planned at a later date. All Faiths Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements. Lewis was born on August 1, 1946, in Grand Island to Irene (Tagge, Kroeger) Benjamin. The man he called his father, Ed Benjamin, came into his life when he was eight. Lewis was raised and received his education in Grand Island attending Grand Island Senior High and later Kearney State College as well as Denver Community College. In 1970, Lewis entered the United States Army, where he proudly served his country until 1973. He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan in the Chemical Corps. On September 5, 1970, Lewis was united in marriage to Debra McQuitty. They made their home in a variety of places including Okinawa, Colorado and California. Ultimately, they returned to Grand Island in 2005. Lewis was an owner of several businesses, including, Land & Sky Waterbeds of Kearney, Ord Bowl, DKJ Sounds, and CAD Inc. Lewis made his careers in construction, engineering, and teaching. Lewis was active with the Eagles and a member of the Elks Lodge. In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling, karaoke, softball, motorcycles, and fishing. He was also a member of the “Plastard Bastards,” the billiards team for the Norfolk Eagles. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Debb; children, Lance (Christina) Buoy and Dawn (Brad) Korrell; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; sister, Lorraine Jensen; and numerous nieces and nephews. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents; aunt and uncle, Marie and Johannes Harder; grandparents, Louis and Eda Tagge; and close friend, Dan Payne.
