Linda "Loupy" Matthes Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Linda “Loupy” Matthes, 69, of Cairo, passed away January 16th at CHI-Health St. Francis. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, January 21st at 10:30 am at All Faiths Funeral Home. Pastor Matt Troyer-Miller will officiate. Family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service, also at the funeral home. For those unable to attend, the service will be livestreamed at www.giallfaiths.com. Online condolences may also be left at this website. Loupy was born on September 17, 1952 in Palmer, to Harvey and Deloris (May) Zichek. She was raised and received her education in the Grand Island area, graduating from Grand Island Senior High in 1970. On April 5, 1982, she was united in marriage to John Matthes. She started as a cook at the Liederkranz, where she met John, and then moved to the Piccadilly dinner theater, where she loved watching plays. Then she became a cook at Riverside Retirement Lodge. Shortly after that, she and John purchased J-Boys Bar. The couple owned and operated the bar for over 20 years. Loupy then worked for Hallmark and finally Walmart, where she retired due to her illness. In her spare time, Loupy enjoyed reading, sewing, exercising, gardening, picnics, walks with her granddaughter, and bird watching. She loved watching boxing, particularly her favorite boxer, Butterbean, or the Chiefs play football. She also loved playing with her animals, going on junk jaunts, and traveling to Hawaii. She was always ready for anything and liked to have fun. More than anything she loved spending time with her family and watching her grandkids grow up. Loupy was a positive person, and even her illness couldn’t take that away from her. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, John; daughter, Michelle (Rick) Lockard; step-daughter, Rebecca (Andrew Caslon) Podraza; grandchildren, Gabie Lockard, Riley Podraza; mother, Deloris; and brother, Ron Zichek. Loupy was preceded in death by her father; and sister, Gayle Zichek. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
