Marvel "Jean" Scarlett Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Marvel “Jean” Bartels Scarlett, 85, of Grand Island, passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2022, at the Good Samaritan Society in Albion, Nebraska. Service and celebration of Jean’s life will be Friday, June 10th at 2:00 p.m. at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island. Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Inurnment will be at a later date at Dublin Cemetery, Primrose, Nebraska. Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date. Jean was born to Paul and Annabel Pauline (Krumpus) Bartels on January 28, 1937, in Spalding, Nebraska. In 1948, she was baptized in the Akron Presbyterian Church, and in 1951, was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion. While growing up, Jean lived on farms in the Primrose and Akron area. She attended country school districts #22, #70 and #79. She graduated from Albion High School in 1954 and also attended Wayne State College. On November 20, 1955, Jean married Donald James “Jim” Scarlett Sr. at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion. The couple had six children. They raised their family in rural Petersburg, Bartlett, and Spalding and in Albion. They later divorced. Jean moved to Grand Island in 1982. Jean worked in a variety of jobs. She operated her own thrift stores and also was a nurse’s aide and medication aide in nursing homes. In addition, she had worked in restaurants and convenience stores and cleaned houses. Her favorite hobbies were her pets, crocheting, and collecting dolls and knickknacks. Jean is survived by her children, Bill (Brenda) of Primrose, Debra of Albion, Donald James Jr. of Arizona, Jerry (Jeanie) of Columbus, Steven of Colorado, and Michael of Grand Island; sister, Beverly Rieck of Albion; 22 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; several great great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Thomas and Dakotea Olson.
