Melvin W. Brandt Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Melvin “Mel” W. Brandt, 91, of Grand Island passed away on June 18, 2022 at CHI- Health St. Francis. A funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, June 23rd at 11 am at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor Bill Pavuk will officiate. Burial will be at Westlawn Cemetery following the service. All Faiths Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements. Mel was born on October 10, 1930 in Grand Island to William and Alvina (Toll) Brandt. He was raised on the family farm near Wolbach and graduated from Wolbach High School in 1948. On May 4, 1952, Mel was united in marriage to JoAnn Carol Battershaw. One son was blessed into this union. Mel started working for Nash Finch in June 1956, and remained there for over 42 years until his retirement in 1999. Mel was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, and served as the Sunday Sexton for over 40 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed displaying at craft shows with his wife, square dancing, and stock car racing. Those left to cherish his memory include his church family and numerous friends. Mel was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn; son, Steven Brandt; parents; and sister, Helen Sprague. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
