Albert C. Proudfit, age 93, Passed away Tuesday Dec 23, 2025, after a short but rapid decline in his health. Born June 23, 1932. Survived by sister Laural Jones, Daughter Sarah (Lawrence) Levering, grandsons Aaron & Alex. Preceded in death by his cherished wife of 54 years, Bettye, son Jonathan and parents Gene and Sidney (Fanders) Proudfit. Memorial service January 24, 2026, 3:30 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 401 168th Circle, Omaha, NE 68144. Inurnment Forest Lawn Cemetery. Proudfit, age 93 Passed away Tues December 23, 2025, after a short but rapid decline in his health. Albert was born June 28, 1932, in Denver, Colorado. The year F.D.R became president, Amelia Airheart crossed the Atlantic, the empire state building had been completed, people gathered round the radio for news and Fred Astaire and Shirley Temple were rising stars, Albert had his own little piece of the news an interesting newspaper clipping from then, shows a picture of 13 boys in a row and no girls born at the Presbyterian Hospital . He was the first born of Gene (George) and Sidney (Fanders) Proudfit. His sister Laural being 7 years younger. When he was 3 months old, his mother left Denver and went to Los Angeles with him in their 1927 Dodge Brothers 4 door sedan, in a little bassinet, with the thought of being with her aging mother. It would not be until he was 13 and Laural was 6, that they were all united as a family in Omaha. His grandmother Laura, who he affectionately called Pama, had along with her husband become Jehovah’s Witnesses(Bible Students) in Colorado and he remembers standing on the street corner, in Los Angeles, with her and carrying a canvas witnessing bag advertising the Watchtower and Awake. He talked fondly of his mother and the wonderful meals she made. When he was in grade school his mother would come get him for lunch and then return for afternoon class, then after school Sidney would take him and Laural to the playground and run off some energy and then go home, make dinner with Pama and do homework, 2 classes he excelled at were, Penmanship and Math. One of his chores as he got older was to take the wagon down a few blocks to the ice house and get ice for the Cooling box at the apartment. He was very fond of his namesake, his Uncle Albert and while to grown ups he was excentric… to a young boy, a basket full of puppies or pens full of rabbits, and an entire crate of California Avocados was great fun and always full of surprises. At 9 years old he remembered his mother calling him in to hear on the radio, the Japanese had bombed Pearl Harbor. Beginning an interesting time of rationing and uncertainty. After his grandmother died in L.A. , His father had gotten a promotion with the Union Pacific Railroad, in Denver, and had been transferred to Omaha. So that they would all be together again, Sidney, Al and Laural traveled by train towards Omaha. He remembers the newspaper boys getting on with headlines saying WAR OVER when they got to Denver and by the time they got to Omaha on the train, there was confetti all over the streets! 1945. Blending back in with his father had its challenges, but in short order he felt at home in Omaha and would reside there for 78 years until he moved near Sarah to Grand Island in 2023. He attended Junior high at Benson West and then Benson for high school. Where he continued his love of science and math, and anything mechanical. Laural says anytime they would get something new, like the toaster,.....Al had to take it apart to see how it worked. He also was learning carpentry and enjoyed building sets for the high school Drama department. Always one to be busy, he did different jobs, starting with detassling corn way out on Dodge st. where his mother would drive him. Since they lived near the Benson area of Omaha he could walk or ride his bike to work at the meat locker, and later sold shoes at a department store. Some other interesting jobs he had were packing ice cream at Seal Test, working in parts at Carl Johnson and learning welding at Werner Wire Works, When he and Betty were first married he sold Fuller Brush and she worked as a 5th grade teacher at Rose Hill School. Later in life he sold truck mirrors and then electrical supplies with his Brother-In-Law, Darryl. Right along he was exposed to the truth and took advantage of his spiritual heritage. When they had moved to Omaha a sister named Dorthy Mc Daniel called on them, and then Ruth Addy continued the study. It is these 2 families that really helped them progress in bible study and continued to be life long friends. Although his father Gene was not a witness, he was always a good father and loved and supported his family. Al got baptized as one of Jehovahs Witnesses at 17 in the basement concrete- block- pool of the north 30th street Kingdom Hall. Which started him on a path that gave his life real meaning. HIs dad encouraged him to get additional schooling, so out of high school he took Engineering at UNO. Though he did excel at this, he had a desire to be a Regular Pioneer and did this for a time. He was also called up before the draft board and his dad helped him get his ministers classification. Being in full time service brought so many opportunities to serve others, meet new friends and travel. He served as a company servant and attended the month-long Kingdom Ministry school at Ithaca, NY, also called Kingdom farm. To support Kingdom activity Albert gave talks on assemblies, and made up the menus for food service, as well as transporting the metal compartment meal trays all over the area. Albert also made and worked in the sign department as well as rooming. He loved to drive his two-tone 1955 Chevy all across the U.S., from California to New York, always taking pictures along the way. Sidney and Laural met him in NYC in 1958 for the famous International assembly Divine Will. It was at the 1960 Nashville Tennessee assembly that his life would as he said ”never be the same”. He met another Pioneer, Betty Rogers and after getting to know one another he took her out for dinner and she slipped her hand in his and they married Dec 30, 1961. They enjoyed 54 years together. They settled in Omaha and Albert continued with theocratic assignments all through the years. They had 2 children Sarah (1964) and Jonathan (1967). Albert worked secularly mostly in sales. Selling Friden calculators (with Henry Knape) and electronic data processing equipment, which became the first computers. Retiring after selling and servicing safety and welding equipment. He was always handy and the trades that he learned along the way, helped him build their first house, with the help of Lloyd Boone, of which he resided for 55 years. He also enjoyed being a part of building different Kingdom halls that were built in Omaha and surrounding area, like the Benson hall on 70th & Maple, and North Oaks 96th and Fort. In the last few halls he was known as the Toilet Partition installation man, wearing his wild patterned welding caps. Travel, Photography, Construction, Classical music and learning the new computers and being part of the neighborhood watch, were all hobbies he enjoyed along the way. After Bettye died he occupied himself with family time enjoying his 2 grandsons, coming up with new projects and making sure that he went regularly to Menards and Harbor Freight. Bro. Jerry Grover and he had become good friends , having both lost their wives. When Albert wasn't able to drive any longer, Jerry stepped in and took him on their weekly adventures. Shortly after this in 2022, he moved to Grand Island and enjoyed being close to his family, Lawrence (AKA His Favorite Son-In-Law), Sarah, Aaron (AKA the Gentle Giant), Alex (AKA the Alexgator) Arleta, Charlene and Bandit. As well as the loving care of the Grand Island friends, Like Melvin, Tim, Will and Jack. He spent his life as a loving husband and father and friend as well as a minister to those in the congregation and those whom he met. He kept the Kingdom hope bright in his heart and mind and longed for the day when the earth would be restored to a Paradise. One of his favorite scriptures was Revelation 21:4 “And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes and death will be no more,neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” He had faith his loved ones will be resurrected and once again he would see Bettye and his very missed and loved son Jonathan.
