Alberta May Perkins

It is with deep sorrow and immense love that we announce the passing of Alberta May (Whitt) Perkins, of Grand Island, Nebraska, on November 29, 2023, at the age of 88. Born to Arthur Raymond and Geraldine Elizabeth (Johnson) Whitt on February 14, 1935, in Grand Island, Alberta was a proud graduate of Hastings Senior High, class of 1953. She wed Charles Albert Perkins on July 18, 1954 in Grand Island, Nebraska, and together they cherished four children: Kim Coleen, David Ward (Christopher Atkins) Perkins, Cregg Lee, and Jill Ann (John) Smith. Additionally, Alberta warmly welcomed Maria Dolores, Cecilia Ann, and Michael Joseph Moya into her family fold. Alberta's legacy continues through her grandchildren, Angela Jeanine (Bob) Fisher, Cora Lea (Joseph Aaron) Lentz, and Tara Evan Stoeger, as well as her great-grandchildren, Everett James and Wells Michael Lentz. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Charles, daughter Kim, son Cregg, her parents, and siblings. Alberta's life was interwoven with the threads of family, friends, and neighbors, who were not just a part of her life but the very inspiration for it. Her weekly routine was a vibrant tapestry of social engagements including cherished coffee gatherings with neighbors, a ritual she dearly loved; tai-chi classes with her close friend Phyliss Long, where fitness met friendship; animated Friday card games, filled with laughter and friendly rivalry alongside cousins Jackie Whitt, Dixie Whitt, and a group of friends; and Saturday church services with Betty Lou Obermiller, a beloved friend of 70 years. Precious moments were also shared with her niece Mari Boehler and her children, Jackson, Kash, and Rilyn, where family conversations were enriched by the sweetness of pie. Alberta's desire to live life was evident in her travels. Whether accompanied by friends or on solo ventures, she relished short excursions for a bit of gambling or to explore local attractions and shows. Her passion for spending time with family also took her to numerous U.S. cities, including New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., Atlanta, Seattle, Cincinnati and Cleveland as well as international destinations like Mexico, Italy, France, England, and Saint Martin. A celebration of Alberta’s vibrant life will be held on December 4 at 10 AM at Trinity United Methodist Church, 511 N Elm St, Grand Island, NE 68801
