Audrey Brummund

Audrey Brummund, 89 of rural Doniphan died Saturday, June 14, 2014 at the Golden Living Center at Lakeveiw. Celebration of life services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at All Faiths Funeral Home. Dan Naranjo will officiate. Burial of ashes will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. To honor Mrs. Brummund’s wishes cremation has taken place. Family will be greeting friends one hour before service time. Mrs. Brummund was born April 2, 1925 to Ed and Edie (Jensen) Bayne in rural Hamilton County. Audrey was preceded in death by her parents, and twin grandchildren, Kristin and Cory Brummund. She is survived by her husband, Robert; children, Bob (Kandy), Gail (Deb), Diane, Larry (Kathy) and Jan. She also has 9 living grandchildren, Angela, Stacy, Chris, Chad (Amy), Barry (Jen), Brian (Emily), Brad (Jenny), Jason (Renee) and Justin Brummund. In addition, she has 10 great grandchildren and two great-great grandsons. She also has three living siblings, Deryl (Kay) Bayne of Grand Island, Eileen Maw of Aurora and Verla Bierbower of David City. Audrey graduated from Giltner High School in 1944. Audrey married the love of her life, Robert Brummund, on May 27, 1945, Audrey and Rob met at a roller skating rink. He literally picked her up when she fell and he has continued to care for her for 69 years. She wore many hats in her life beginning with wife and then mother as Audrey and Rob had 5 children, Bob, Gail, Diane, Larry and Jan. Being a farm wife and mother kept her busy. She raised many vegetables and chickens and sold the eggs weekly to pay the grocery bill. The children remember that when their mom went to town, she would bring them home a little bag of candy from the five and dime. Audrey enjoyed cooking and many people have been loved by the cooking she did for them. Not only family, but Audrey also cooked for the Giltner Schools for 3 years. Then she went on to be a nursing aid at the VA home in Grand Island for 20 years. After her time at the VA, she did private care for elderly in their homes. And then with retirement, Audrey was again found cooking for family. She enjoyed trying new recipes, especially cookie recipes. No one left their home without sharing coffee and cookies. Memorials are suggested to St. Francis Cancer Treatment Center.
