Barbara Anne Kellogg (née Freese)

Barbara Anne Kellogg (née Freese), whose kindness, generous heart, and love for her family touched everyone who knew her, was called home to her Lord on August 4, 2026. She was 76 years old. Born on Flag Day, June 14, 1950, in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Harold and Marie Freese, Barbara grew up hearing her father joke that he was putting the American flag out just for her birthday. She grew up in Grand Island, Nebraska, where she graduated from Grand Island High before attending the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. It was there she met her college sweetheart, Jeffrey Kellogg. They were married on April 7, 1973, and shared 53 wonderful years together, building a life centered on love and family. After spending ten years in Minnesota, where Barbara worked at the Fort Snelling VA and later at a local spa, Barbara and Jeffrey made their way to Texas. They briefly lived in Arlington before settling in the Houston area, where they spent nearly 20 years raising their son, Justin. Though far from much of their extended family, the three of them built a close-knit home filled with love, sharing not only life’s milestones but also the everyday moments that became their most cherished memories. Barbara worked at Dulles Elementary School, assisting the school counselor and nurse and caring for students with the same compassion she showed throughout her life. Later, she and her family moved to the Rio Grande Valley, where they spent the next two decades building a life. Barbara worked at Tuesday Morning, where she became an assistant manager, as well as Pier 1 before retiring. She also came to appreciate the wonderful food and welcoming spirit of the Valley. Barbara was always looking for a way to make someone else’s day a little brighter. Whether making homemade Christmas fudge for neighbors, doing something thoughtful for someone else, or simply offering a warm smile, she found joy in making other people’s lives a little better. Thoughtful acts of kindness came naturally to her, and she lived her life with genuine warmth and generosity. Animals always held a special place in Barbara’s heart, and her beloved dogs—Muffin, Molly, and Maggie—brought her endless happiness and companionship. She also delighted in decorating for every season, but Halloween held a special place in her heart. Every year, she somehow found room for one more decoration to add to her ever-growing collection. Above all else, Barbara loved her family. Though their family in Texas was small—just Barbara, Jeffrey, and Justin—their bond was exceptionally close. They shared holidays, celebrations, challenges, and countless everyday moments together. Her love for her family was constant, unconditional, and evident in everything she did. Barbara will be remembered for her gentle spirit, caring nature, and the quiet ways she made others feel cared for. She was the kind of person who made the world a little brighter simply by being in it. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Marie Freese, and her sister, Janet Stockman (née Freese). She is survived by her beloved husband of 53 years, Jeffrey Kellogg; her son, Justin; her brothers-in-law Gary Kellogg and Reed Stockman; her nephew, Dillon Stockman; and many friends and loved ones who were fortunate enough to know and love her. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial donations be made to Palm Valley Animal Society in Barbara’s honor, reflecting her lifelong love of animals. Barbara will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered whenever Christmas fudge is shared, Halloween decorations bring smiles, a flag is proudly flown, or a simple act of kindness brightens someone’s day.
