Betty Lou Derr

Betty Lou (West) Derr 87 Betty Lou (West) Derr, 87 of Giltner died April 20th at home, with her family by her side. To honor her wishes cremation will take place. A family service will be at a later time. Gathering of family and friends will be at All Faiths Funeral Home on Monday, April 25th from 5-7 p.m. Everyone is welcome to come to rejoice that she is in a Better place. Betty was born in Giltner on December 4, 1928 the daughter of Russell Albert and Allie Nancy (Huff) West. She was the last born of nine children. Betty grew up in Giltner, and graduated from Giltner High School in 1946. She was united in marriage to Eugene Elmer Derr on January 21, 1947 at Smith Center, Kansas. Following their marriage they moved to Aurora, where Betty worked at the Farmers Union Creamery for a short time, then worked at BB Nursing Home. She worked at the Hamilton County Courthouse in Aurora in the County Court office until sometime in the 1970s. Betty and Eugene both retired and enjoyed camping and traveling to Texas during the winters and spent lots of time with the family. They both felt the family is where the heart starts and your love grows from there. They are very lucky and still have over 70 family members. Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Bill Derr of Grand Island, Marcia Strasheim of Phillips, Terry and Connie Bird (Derr) of Giltner, Jeff Derr of Wood River; 12 Grandchildren, Donna and (Jason) Kelsch, (Todd) and Kathy Ronnfeldt, Tricia and (Jeremy) Thramer, Ammie Holtzen and Les Cates, Vicki Gay and Robert Berney, Jason and (Lea) Derr, David Derr, Josh and (Ashley) Derr, Sarah and (Bryan) McIntosh, Eric and (Lindsey) Derr, Jon Strasheim and Tiffany; 39 Great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren; brothers- in- law Robert Derr of Grand Island, sister-in-law (Terry) Lynda Garver of Hastings; many nieces and nephews on both sides. She was proceeded in death by her parents, her two brothers, and six sisters, her husband, her parents-in-law, a brother-in-law, two sisters-in-law, daughter-in-law and great granddaughter, Natoya Burns. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designations.
