Bonnie Obermier

Bonnie Obermier, 79 of Grand Island, formerly of Lincoln, died Wednesday, October 18th in Grand Island. A private family Celebration of Life will be held at All Faiths Funeral Home Chapel in Grand Island. Daniel Naranjo will officiate. Entombment of ashes will be at a later date at First Plymouth Church in Lincoln. Memorials are suggested to the family to be determined later. Bonnie was born December 14, 1943 in a farmhouse in Seward County the daughter of Virgil and Esther (Pozehl) Hayes. Her father Virgil died when Bonnie was a child and her mother later married Bonnie’s stepfather Henry Gaver. She graduated from York High School class of 1961. On January 27, 1963 she was united in marriage to Duane Obermier. They lived in Kearney, Hastings, Grand Island for many years, Lincoln and back to Grand Island in 2022. Bonnie had a 20-year career with the VA Medical Center in Grand Island and Lincoln. She was a pharmacy tech, a purchasing agent and later a contract specialist. In Lincoln she was a member of First Plymouth Church. While living in Grand Island she was active with the Grand Island Little Theatre. Bonnie was a talented artist and painter. She loved gardening and was an animal lover. She especially adored her cats. She decorated her home with the eye of an artist and took pride decorating the annual Christmas tree which was always spectacular. Bonnie cherished time spent with her children and the “incredible eight” grandchildren. She was blessed with many good times with special friends cheering on the Nebraska Cornhuskers and playing bridge. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 60 years, Duane; children, Christina (Jeff) Dennhardt, Adriene (Greg) Baxter and Aaron Obermier all of Grand Island; grandchildren, Miranda (Michael) Baxter-Sutherland, Connor Dennhardt (fiancé Emily Pedone), Alec (Emmaline) Baxter, Breanna Obermier, Morgan Dennhardt (special friend Zebulon Cooper), Alexa Obermier (fiancé Tyler Barrientos), Nolan Dennhardt and Chloe Obermier (special friend Devon Sell). She is also survived by sister, Donna (Russell) Rice of York and special friends, Judy and late husband Al Beckler of Lincoln, Bob and Marie Meyers of Omaha, special Norwegian exchange student Kari Fossesholm Fekjan, and Sarah Parker of New York City. She is preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather and brother, Douglas Hayes.
