Cathy Bredthauer

Cathy Lynn Bredthauer 66, of Grand Island passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at St. Francis Skilled Care in Grand Island, Ne. A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Grand Island. Reverend Edgar L. Schambach, Jr. will officiate. Burial of ashes will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Family will be greeting friends an hour prior to services. All Faiths Funeral Home is serving the family. Cathy was born in Grand Island to Harold and Elsie (Rothfuss) Barge on April 7, 1948 and baptized in the Christian faith at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Cathy is survived by her husband Larry Bredthauer of Grand Island; one son, Aaron Bredthauer and one daughter, Lisa Degen (Brian) of Grand Isand; three grandchildren, Taylor Bredthauer, Rylei and Jack Degen; one brother Bill (Wendy) Barge of Grand Island; two sisters-in-law, Kathy Schuessler (Mike) of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Pam Clark (Gregg) of Pocatello, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson, Branigun Bredthauer. After graduating from Grand Island Senior High in 1966 she attended Kearney State College. On June 12, 1971 Cathy was united in marriage to Larry Bredthauer, owner of Central Nebraska Adjustment Company. They made their first home in Lincoln, Nebraska where she trained and worked as a CNA. She continued working in health care after they moved to Grand Island and later devoted her time to raising two children. Cathy had a caring heart and a willingness to serve others wherever the need. She found pleasure in reading, volunteering at church and participating in Bible studies. Cathy’s strong faith enabled her to valiantly fight a 15 year battle with ovarian cancer. She was determined to stay well and watch her grandchildren grow and change. She will be lovingly remembered for her faith, courage and quiet acceptance. Cathy’s family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Copur, Dr. Fruehling, St. Francis Skilled Nursing and St. Grancis Cancer Teatment Center for their wonderful care and support. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Heartland United Way or the American Cancer Society.
