Clarence "Clancy" Nielsen

Clarence “Clancy” Nielsen, 76 of Grand Island died on April 21, 2016 surrounded by his family at his home. To honor his wishes cremation was chosen. Visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. followed by the memorial service at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at All Faiths Funeral Home. Pastor Thomas Schneider will officiate. Burial will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors rendered by the U. S. Marines and Grand Island Veterans Honor Guard. Everyone is invited to a luncheon following the burial at Christ Lutheran Church. Clarence was born on Sept 25, 1939 to Carl and Esther (Albrecht) Nielsen on a farm outside of Mason City, NE. He was raised and lived in Grand Island all of his life. He attended school at Trinity Lutheran, Walnut Junior High and graduated from Grand Island High School. He joined the Marine Corp and was honorably discharged in 1960. He received a business degree from the Grand Island School of Business. In 1962 he was united in marriage to Shirley Hoffer. For about 25 years Clarence was in the mobile home business until starting his own business, Nielsen Floor Covering. He and his former wife, Shirley purchased The Bootlegger Bar in 1982. He retired in 1989 due to his health. Clarence was a member of Christ Lutheran Church; he enjoyed playing pool, darts, and any card game with family. He was also an avid fisherman and enjoyed camping. He loved all sports. For many years he coached his sons in Little League and loved to watch his daughters play softball. In recent years he was able to watch his grandchildren in their activities. Most of all Clarence loved his family and cherished the time spent with them. He is survived by his children and grandchildren, Stacey and children, Mandy, Michael, and Matthew of Grand Island; Carl (Dawn) and children, Anthony and Jet of Grand Island; Scott (Tonya) and children, Christopher, David and Jordan of Stapleton, AL; Channey and children, Taeler and Abbigeal of Grand Island; Sadie (Billy) and children, Jacob, Caleb, and Kaylee of Grand Island; Candice (Jodi) and children, Aubrey, Addison, Ava; Stephen and daughter, Ryloe of Grand Island; brother, Alvin; and sisters, Helen, Cleo, Eunice, and Ruth; and many great-grandchildren and numerous extended family and friends. Clarence is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Marion, and close friend Georgene Clingerman. Memorials are suggested to the Grand Island Girls ABCDD Softball League or Christ Lutheran Church.
