Dick E. Knuth

Dick E. Knuth, 87, of Grand Island, passed away om August 5, 2026. Dick was born on June 15, 1939, in Grand Island, NE, son of Elmer and Irene (Boltz) Knuth. He graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1957. Following graduation, he went to Ventura, CA, where he worked at a family-owned body shop. When he returned home, he worked installing soft water in homes and windows and awnings for McGoverns Home Improvement. Dick then went to work for Chief Industries in the grain bin division. He retired in custom products, a division of Chief, after 44 years. On February 7, 1960, he was united in marriage to Loma Helzer at Trinity Methodist Church. They have two beautiful children, Michael and Michele. Dick loved playing softball at the Platt Deutsche. He was known for his homeruns and his plays at 3rd base. He also played city basketball. He loved hunting and fishing, and to be in the blind on the river or at Eagle’s lake to catch bass. Dick bowled and liked playing sheephead and pitch. After retirement, he bought a cabin at Calamus. Dick always had a love for birds. He fed them well through the winter months. He knew each one by their song or their sound. He would point them out when he heard them. Dick was a long-time member of the Platt Deutsche and Saddle Club. He was baptized and confirmed at the St. Paul Lutheran Church and later transferred to Trinity Methodist. Dick loved his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren so much. He was a wonderful husband, dad, grandpa, great grandpa, and friend. Survivors include his wife, Loma; son, Michael (Sheryl) Knuth of Grand Island; daughter, Michele (Craig) Malasek of Central City; grandchildren, Michaela (Luke) Schuster of Minden, Taylor (Eon) Lemburg of Grand Island, Braden (Hannah) Knuth of Grand Island, Riley (Lindsey) Malasek of Central City, Ryan (Jaedyn) Malasek of Central City; sister, Barb McNelis of Grand Island; sister-in-law, Rita Smith of Minden; six sweet little great grandchildren; Asher and Banks Lemburg, Cooper Knuth, Raelynn and Huxley Malasek, Tate Schuster, and three more on the way; along with many more family members and friends. Dick is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Irene; two brothers, Bill and Bob; sisters, Karen Knuth and Delores Brooks; sister-in-law, Diane Knuth; and brothers-in-law, Wes Brooks and Frank McNelis. A Celebration of life will be at All Faiths Funeral Home, with visitation starting at 10am and the service at 11am, on Tuesday, August 11, 2026. Burial will immediately follow at Westlawn Cemetery.
