Donna Ellis

Donna W. Ellis, 69 of Grand Island went to her Heavenly home Saturday, July 9, 2016 at Tiffany Square. Celebration of life service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church. Reverend Caroline Price-Gibson will officiate. Private family burial of ashes will be in the Minden Cemetery. All Faiths Funeral Home is serving the family. Mrs. Ellis was born May 17, 1947 at Pittsburgh, PA the daughter of Howard and Nelda (Fenner) Wood. Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Daniel; their children, Diane (Garry) Ward of Fairbury, Deborah (Mike) Poland of Palmer and David (Cheryl) Ellis of Cherokee, IA; grandchildren, Daniel Ellis, Janice Ward, Amy Ward, Riane Ward, Austin Zimbelman, Alexis Poland, Kade Poland, Jayce Poland, Heather Ellis, Dallas Ellis, Elizabeth Ellis, Heidi Ellis, Leah Ellis and Amelia Bo Ellis; three great-grandchildren and brother, Stan (Donna) Wood of Canton, Ohio and her mother-in-law, Martha Ellis of Minden. She is preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Carolyn Churchill; father-in-law, Orval Ellis and brother-in-law, Delbert Ellis. Donna was raised in Pittsburgh, PA. She received her BA in Health and Physical Education from Slippery Rock State College in Pennsylvania and her Master’s from Doane College. On June 7, 1969 she was united in marriage to Daniel E. Ellis. They lived in Brook Park, Ohio; Mentor, Ohio and Mentor on the Lake, Ohio. They made Grand Island their home in 1976. Donna worked at St. Mary’s School in Mentor; OB receptionist in Brook Park; Northwestern Bell Operator in Grand Island; JM McDonalds in Grand Island; First Presbyterian Preschool in Grand Island and secretary at Grace Covenant and First Presbyterian. She taught 4th, 5th and 6th grades at Newell, Walnut and Engelman for the Grand Island Public Schools from 1987-2009. Some of her enjoyments include her grandchildren, reading, quilting, making tie blankets, fabric stores, adult coloring, Sudoku, loved teaching, being with friends and family. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the GRACE Foundation, First Presbyterian Preschool or donor’s choice.
