Dorothy L. Suzick

Dorothy L. Suzick 85 of Sauk Rapids, MN formerly of Grand Island, died Wednesday, March 25, 2015. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island. Burial will be in the Grand Island Cemetery. Visitation will be an hour before service time. Mrs. Suzick was born to James and Lydia (Schmidt) Deuel in Grand Island, NE. Raised and schooled in Grand Island, she started working as a cook and waitress at a local cafe at the age of 16. At the age of 18, she met and married a young soldier who was stationed in nearby Kearney, Ne. His name was William F. Suzick. Two years later, she relocated, with her husband and son, Billy, to her husband’s hometown of Keewatin, MN. There, she would be a loving wife, mother and homemaker for the next 25 years. Her favorite pastime was to go out dancing with her husband every (almost) Saturday night (their version of Saturday Night Fever). They would relive that magic night they met, over and over again. She also loved cats, bowling, a good book, a good movie and her flower and vegetable garden. Due to her extensive experience as a waitress and cook, her little family ate quite well! She was one of the first waitresses to be hired at Sammy’s Pizza of Hibbing, MN, when it opened in the mid 1950’s. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She knew Jesus Christ as her Savior. She is survived by her son, Bill (Gail) Suzick of St. Joseph; granddaughter, Kelly Ann Suzick (Gino) of St. Paul; step-grandchildren, Dave Gjerdahl, Jason Gjerdahl and Angela Gjerdahl all of St. Joseph and Rice; brothers, Jimmy Deuel and Danny (Vickie) Deuel of Grand Island; sisters, Margie (Bill) Fulton of Grand Island and Marie French of Friend, NE; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband in April of 1976. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s research. A special thanks to Lorrie and her staff at Generations Home Inc., and her caregivers at CentraCare Hospital of St. Cloud for making our mother comfortable and secure in her last years.
