Frank D. Haack, Sr.

Frank D. Haack, Sr., 90 of Grand Island died Wednesday, May 04, 2016 at Good Samaritan Society-Grand Island Village. Celebration of life service will be 2 p.m. Monday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church. Reverend Bill Pavuk will officiate. Family will be greeting friends an hour before service time. All Faiths Funeral Home is serving the family. Mr. Haack was born April 9, 1926 at Grand Island the son of Frank J. and Doris (Suelsen) Haack. Survivors are his children, Frank (Kate) Haack of Hastings, David (Terri) Haack of Columbia, MO, Avery Haack of Lincoln and Kurt Haack of Wichita, KS; step children, Cathy (Don) Lichty of Parker, CO, Craig (Barbara) Lewis of Grand Island, and Michael (Chris) Lewis of St. Charles, MO; brother, Robert (Annetta) Haack of Rio Verde, Arizona; grandchildren, Jereme, Amber, Danielle and Jon; step grandchildren, Paul, Deidre, Terese, Sam, Mary, Peter, Betsy, Zach, Jackson, Colin and Sydney; great-grandchildren, Krishanthan, Jayani, Alivia, Keatan, Zadin, Sophie, Emma, Lucy, Wyatt and Zoey and step great-grandchildren, Piper, Vance, Ellodie and Catherine. He is preceded in death by his wife, “Dee” Delores and his parents. Frank was raised and received his education in Grand Island graduating from Grand Island Senior High, class of 1943. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-46. Following the military he received his A.B. from Doane College in 1950 and his Master’s in Education from UNL in 1960. He taught in Cambridge, NE; served as Superintendent at Tobias, NE from 1951-56; taught at Walnut Junior High in Grand Island from 1956-58; served as assistant Principal at Walnut Junior High from 1958-59 and Principal at Barr Junior High from 1959-91. He was united in marriage to “Dee” Delores (Terry) Lewis in 1968. Some of his past activities included, Board Member of YMCA; Board Member of the United Way; past Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge, 604; President of the Grand Island Education Association; Board Member of Nebraska State Association of Secondary School Principals; President of the Region IV State Association of School Administrators; published article on teacher evaluations in Educational Leadership; Extra Ordinary Person for the Grand Island Independent on 1990; Grand Island Chamber of Commerce; Board of Directors for Fonner Park and the Grand Island Rotary Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, skiing, loved the mountains and exploring the old ghost towns of Colorado. Memorials are suggested to either St. Pauls Lutheran Church or the Grand Island Education Foundation.
