Garry Williams

Garry L. Williams, 62 of Grand Island entered his Heavenly home on Thursday, June 25, 2015. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Christian Church, 2400 West 14th Street. Reverend Dr. Scott Taylor will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday at All Faiths Funeral Home. Garry was born November 8, 1952 at Grand Island the son of Richard and Marcella (Steffen) Williams. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 40 years, Jeanne; their children, Tyler (Heather) Williams, Amber (B.J.) O’Hara and Jared (Tana) Williams and his mother, Marcella Williams all of Grand Island; grandchildren, Jolie and Jackson O’Hara, Audrey, Hudson and Emily Williams and Chase Williams. He is preceded in death by his father and brother, Monty Williams. Garry was raised in Grand Island graduating from Grand Island Senior High, class of 1971. On November 23, 1974 he was united in marriage to Jeanne McDonald. He was employed by Burlington Northern Railroad from 1974 until his retirement in 2013. He was a charter member of the Grand Island Saddle Club; lifetime member of the NRA; past member of the Platt Duetsche and member of First Christian Church. He coached Little League Baseball and wrestling. He played and coached softball. Nebraska and Oklahoma Football where his favorite teams. Garry loved to hunt and fish. He always had a handkerchief in his back pocket and always wore a cap. He enjoyed playing Sudoku Puzzles. He kept a journal writing down highlights of each day. Making a list of tasks he needed to get done; crossing off each one as completed. As a family man he always made time for family vacations. He was a man with many irons in the fire but if someone needed help he was the first to assist. He was a guide with John Hatley on the Hudson Bay in Manitoba, Canada. He enjoyed being a part-time cattle rancher and farmer. Garry always had a dog with him the last being Lexi. Following dinner he would enjoy a Dilly Bar. Christmas and the 4th of July were his favorite holidays. His family are his pride and joy. Since becoming a grandpa, he loved the time spent fishing with his grandkids. His memory will be cherished by many. A memorial fund will be established in memory of Garry.
