Gene Reed Morris

Gene Reed Morris, 87, of Grand Island, Nebraska passed away on August 27, 2026. A celebration of life with military honors will be held on Saturday, September 12th at 10am at All Faiths Funeral Home with Dan Naranjo officiating. The service will be livestreamed on the funeral home website. Inurnment will follow at the Grand Island City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation. Condolences can be left at www.giallfaiths.com. Gene was born on September 24, 1938, in Pueblo, Colorado to Burton and Alta (Reed) Morris. He spent his childhood in Colorado with his younger sister, Mona Kay. When Gene was a teenager, the family moved to Mason City, Nebraska as his mother took a teaching job there. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1956. Gene proudly served three years in the United States Army, including time stationed in Germany. After completing his military service as a decorated Marksman in 1964, he moved to Grand Island, Nebraska, where he began a long career at Hornady Manufacturing. Gene was a toolmaker and continued working at Hornady well into his 70s. His 51 years with the company provided him with many stories to tell and, perhaps more importantly, many cherished friendships. Outside of work, Gene enjoyed a variety of hobbies. He was a target shooter and was a long-time member of the Grand Island Gun Club. A tinkerer at heart, he spent many hours working on intricate projects. He liked jigsaw puzzles and was an avid reader, always on the lookout for a good book and to learn about something new. Gene’s love of books and reading was reflected in his support of the Grand Island Public Library. Gene also enjoyed the simple pleasure of gathering with friends for breakfast on Saturday mornings at the VFW. Although he was no fan of eggs, that never stopped him from joining his friends and enjoying the fellowship. Gene will be remembered for his independent spirit, his wisdom, intellect, and sharp wit; his recollections, and the many years he devoted to his work and hobbies. Gene is survived by his nephew, Morris Vaughan and Patricia Vaughn, and their sons, Caleb, Micah, and Jadon, of California; his nephew, Charles Vaughan and Anne Vaughan of Tennessee; and his brother-in-law, Battle Vaughan of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, Burton and Alta Morris, and his sister, Mona Kay Vaughan.
