Guadalupe Consuela Aldana

Guadalupe “Lupe” Consuelo Aldana, 93, passed from this life on Wednesday, December 17, 2014. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Father Todd Philipsen will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the church with a Vigil Wake Service at 7:00. All Faiths Funeral Home is serving the family. Guadalupe was born October 12, 1921 at Santa Fe Del Rio, Mexico, the daughter of Jesus and Rosario (Herrera) Soto. Those left to cherish her memory include five children, John Aldana of Grand Island, Jerry (Shannon) Aldana of Grand Island, Felix (Pam) Aldana of Hastings, Peggy (Luis) Flores of Grand Island and Virginia (Steven) Wheeler of Grand Island; brothers, Frank (Juanita) Soto of Oxnard, CA, Abraham ‘Abe’ (Emily) Soto, Louis (Rey) Soto, Robert (Linda) Soto, and Richard (Virginia) Soto, all of Wood River; sisters, Connie (Gonzalo) DeLeon of LaMirada, CA, and Juanita (Robert) Briseno of Wood River; 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 2 great great-grandchildren, and step grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband on November 4, 1997; her parents; a son, Henry Jr. on December 14, 1998; and sisters, Hope DeLeon and Comfort DeLeon. Guadalupe came to the United States with her parents in 1923 when she was two years old. They lived in Hastings and she attended Hastings Public Schools. She was united in marriage to Henry Nicholas Aldana on September 29, 1939 in Grand Island. The couple lived in Shelton and Juniata before moving to Grand Island in 1943. Lupe was a homemaker, raising her children until she began working at Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant in 1964. She worked in food service at the V.A. Medical Center from 1973 until her retirement in 1986. Her family and faith were an important part of her life and Lupe was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Blessed Sacrament Altar Society, Catholic Daughters and Queen of Peace, Court 2227. Her enjoyments included gardening, reading and quilting. She quilted with the Quilting Ladies at Blessed Sacrament for many years. Memorials are suggested to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church or Central Catholic School.
