Ila Marie Wood

Ila Marie Wood, 100, of Grand Island, went to her heavenly home on August 16, 2024. A graveside service will be held at 1 P.M. on Thursday, August 22, 2024 at the Grand Island City Cemetery with Dan Naranjo officiating. Visitation will be held from 12-1 P.M. at All Faiths Funeral Home. To honor Ila’s servant’s heart, memorials are suggested to the charity of your choice. Ila was born on April 5, 1924 in Shelton, Nebraska to Clarence and Ethel (Book) Pope. She was raised on a farm near Shelton and graduated from Shelton High School. After graduating, Ila moved to Grand Island, where she worked for the Cornhusker Ordinance Plant and Sears Department On April 5, 1951, Ila was united in marriage to Benjamin Wood. Following their marriage, Ila became a homemaker. In 1972, the couple moved to North Platte before returning back to Grand Island in 2020. Ila was a member of the United Methodist Church in Grand Island for many years. Ila truly had a servant’s heart and loved to volunteer at numerous charities, organizations, and events. In 2008, she received the President’s Volunteer Service Award for her countless hours of service to the community. Ila also enjoyed bowling, playing cards, crocheting, sewing, and embroidery. Those left to cherish her memory include; her sons, Michael (Pat) Wood, Timothy (Mary) Wood; stepson, Benjamin (Audrey) Wood Jr.; sisters, Virginia Luebs and Loma Campbell; 9 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Ila was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Wood; her parents; brother, Clarence Glen Pope; sister, Dorothy Largent; and step-daughter, Janet Santori. Friday, August 16th, heaven gained an absolute angel. Not many could say that they had someone like Ila in their lives. We all are extremely grateful to have been a part of her life. We and everyone who knew Ila has been so lucky to learn from her for the last century. Ila taught us to never take anything for granted, and to be present in every individual day. She taught us that every moment matters. We all know that she made a great impact on each and every one of our lives. Ila, we know that you will paint the sky so beautiful and watch us continue to learn and grow from above. Anybody who was lucky enough to know her, knows she was the kindest, sassiest, and most loving person. She is forever our cover girl.
