Jack Micek

Jacob “Jack” Micek, 72, of Grand Island died Sunday, October 18, 2015, in Grand Island. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at St. Leo’s Catholic Church, with Father Don Buhrman officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the church with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. Jack was born July 23, 1943 in Fullerton, NE, to Joseph and Helen (Uzendoski) Micek. He grew up on the family farm in Fullerton, graduating from Fullerton High School with the Class of 1961. He was married to Janie Otoupal on July 23, 1965 at St. Boneventure Catholic Church in Columbus and they relocated to Grand Island. Jack began in construction with John Claussen and Sons immediately after high school, and was with the company 25 years. He later worked for Art-Kraft Inc. before retirement. Jack was an excellent finish carpenter with a great artistic ability. After retirement, Jack’s love of woodworking led him to doing custom work for a number of churches, bars and individuals. He was a member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, the Platt Duetsche and the Saddle Club. Jack was a big fan of stock car racing and always enjoyed going back to the family farm. He especially enjoyed being around his beloved grandchildren. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Janie; sons, Scott (Elizabeth) Micek of Lincoln, Tim (Teri) Micek of Cedar Rapids, IA, Doug Micek of Kearney and Rod (Kelly) Micek of Lincoln; brothers Joe (Sue) Micek of Omaha, Albert (Barb) Micek of Fullerton, Ray (Mary) Micek of Grand Island and Ted (Marge) Micek of Shelby, NE; sisters, Theresa (Leonard) Harms of Dodge, NE and Geraldine Wrzenski of St. Paul; and eight grandchildren, Josh, Avery, Kendra, Austin, Kayla, Garret, Morgan and Lexi. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sister-in-law, Gerard (Margaret) Micek and Nathaniel Micek; sisters and brothers-in-law, Bernice (Sylvester) Starzec and Loretta (Adrian) Schuyler; and brother-in-law, Raymond Wrzenski. Memorials are suggested to Central Catholic High School or the family’s choice.
