Jerry Anderson obituary Jerry A. Anderson 96, of Grand Island, owner of Skate Island, died Thursday, March 21, 2024 at CHI Health-St. Francis. A celebration of life service will be held at New Life Community Church, Grand Island, NE at 1:30 pm Saturday, August 10, 2024 followed by a dessert fellowship. Son-in-law Dr. Keith Davis will officiate. Burial of ashes will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery alongside his wife, Shirley. Military honors will be rendered by the U.S. Army and United Veterans Honor Guards. All Faiths Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements. Jerry was born on March 13, 1928 in Hastings, NE the son of Bert and Pruda (Huffer) Anderson. He graduated from Red Cloud High School in Red Cloud, Nebraska. Jerry served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was united in marriage to Shirley Phifer on June 6, 1948 in Red Cloud. Jerry was the Baby Ruth Man for 10 years, and then along with his wife, they started Anderson Candy Kitchen. Together they purchased Skate Island Family Fun Center and Andy’s Miniature Golf in 1969. Following their retirement, Jerry and Shirley enjoyed traveling. Jerry was a member of several organizations throughout his career, including Optimist Club, Saddle Club, the Elks, Liederkranz, American Legion and New Life Community Church. He looked forward to his weekly Thursday coffee group chats. Jerry was known throughout our community for his passion to provide wholesome fun for young people and employed many youths giving them their first work experience. He was also known as a coach and mentor to many young adult men helping them reach their potential in the work world. Jerry loved his Lord and Savior and time spent with his family. Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Kathy (Keith) Davis and Sheri (Monte) Hack; daughter-in-law, Kathy Anderson; grandchildren Jason, Neysha, Ryan, Kody, Haley, Kelton, Hanah, Kendra and Konnor and great grandchildren, Kyan, Aiden, Michael, Talia, Sydney, Kadri, Monroe and Scottie Joy…and his special canine companion, Sophie. He is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley who died Dec. 6, 2011, their son, Steve Anderson, grandson Derek Hack and granddaughter Keilah Davis. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to New Life Community Church or to the family’s choice.
