Jerry Lee Benker

Jerry Lee Benker, 79, of Grand Island passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2023 in Lincoln, NE. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, March 7th at 3:00 pm at All Faiths Funeral Home. Daniel Naranjo will officiate the service. Family will meet guests one hour prior to the service. Live streaming will be on Jerry’s obituary page at www.giallfaiths.com. A burial of ashes will be held at a later date at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Hastings. Jerry “The Barber” Benker was born on April 21, 1943 in Tulsa, OK to Marvin and LaVonne (Wilson) Benker. He was raised in Hastings, NE and graduated from Hastings High School in 1961. After high school, Jerry served in the Air National Guard as Military Police and attended the National Barber School in Omaha. On July 26, 1968, Jerry married the love of his life, Jeanne Krzycki. To this union they were blessed with two daughters, Jennifer and Jodi. Jerry dedicated himself to his profession as a barber for over 55 years. Jerry’s first shop he owned was Esquire Barber Shop. He later worked at Belmont Barber Shop, co-owned The Rustic Razor, and lastly, he owned Heritage Hair Care. In addition to cutting hair, he owned Gracious Living Homes for over 20 years as a general contractor. He was a member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. Jerry enjoyed woodcarving, fishing, boating, hunting and loved being a grandpa to Jennifer’s children. He believed a stranger was just a friend you haven’t met yet. He was a vehicle enthusiast, which he shared with his daughter, Jodi. He had a fondness for telling the same three jokes and his customers never tired of hearing them. Jerry will be remembered for his warm smile, kind heart, wit and humor. He loved dancing with his wife at his brothers’ dances. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Jeanne; daughters Jennifer (Jim) Arthur and Jodi (Justin) Clay, both of Lincoln; three grandchildren, Jayden, Jeremy and Jillian; and sister, Janice (Ray)Buhr of Omaha. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Greg, infant daughter, Jill Marie Benker, his nephew, Jeff Buhr and mother-in-law, Clara Krzycki. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Shriners Hospitals for Children or the American Heart Association of Nebraska. Online condolences may be left at www.giallfaiths.com.
