Larry Runge

Larry Runge, 68, of Grand Island passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at CHI-Health St. Francis after a courageous battle with cancer. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday at All Faiths Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday in the Sanctuary of Trinity United Methodist Church. Rev. Kelly Karges will officiate. Burial will follow at Grand Island City Cemetery. Larry was born on April 29, 1948 in Grand Island, son of Dale and Leila (Douglass) Runge. Those left to cherish his memory is his wife, Linda of Grand Island; two sons and daughter, Larry (Rita) Runge of Bellevue, Rick (Angela) Runge of Elm Creek, Tiffany (Scott) Richmond of St. Louis, MO; stepdaughters, Tammy (Todd) Helgoth of St. Libory, Staci ( Rob) Supencheck of Grand Island, Lisa (Mike) Hinken of Grand Island; sister, Sharon (Ed) Antonio of Albuquerque, NM; stepfather, Ernest (Kathryn) Wempen; grandchildren, Cameran, Gabriel, Hailey, Cody, Riley, Casey, Jaimie, MaKenna, Lucas, Ashton, Alex, and Cassidy; his beloved yorkie, Ellie Mae and cats, Shiloh and Simon; his great granddogs, and all his amazing co-workers at Hall County Sheriff Department. He was so proud to be a part of that team. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Leila, and grandparents. As a lifelong Grand Island resident, Larry graduated from Grand Island Senior High with the class of 1966. He continued his education and attended Kearney State College. Larry was soon employed by New Holland for the next 33 years until his retirement in 2006. Since Larry liked to work and be around people, he began working for the Grand Island police department as a crossing guard for the Grand Island Public Schools. He was then offered a part time position with the Hall County Sheriff Department as a process server. He enjoyed his career change and shared often with his family how much he respected and valued all of the employees from Hall County Sheriff Department. Even though Larry’s illness prevented him from doing many things he enjoyed in the recent months, he missed his job greatly. Larry met Linda in 1994, and they were married on August 20, 2005 in Las Vegas, NV, they spent 23 wonderful years together and Larry gained three stepdaughters. Larry was an avid pool player for many years; he enjoyed late model dirt track racing and NASCAR. Larry was a friend to many and everyone he met loved him. Larry loved to attend the sporting events and activities of his grandchildren. He loved his grandchildren dearly. He had a heart of gold and was always there for his family to provide encouragement and support where needed. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date.
