Lyman Sigler

Lyman E. Sigler, 85 of Grand Island died Sunday, April 26, 2015 at Wedgewood Care Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Grand Island. Burial will be in the Grand Island Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday with a parish Rosary at 7 p.m. at All Faiths Funeral Home. Mr. Sigler was born May 19, 1929 on a family farm near Litchfield the son of William and Beulah (Conrad) Sigler. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Margaret; their children, Terry and Lauree Sigler of North Platte, Randy Sigler of Hastings, Patrick and Cindy Sigler of Ooltewah, Tennessee and Roger and Joyce Sigler of Lakewood, WA; twelve grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren; sister, Marge and Oren Larsen of Hazard, NE; sisters-in-law, Fern Sigler of Cheyenne, Dorothy Sigler of Ravenna and Norma Sigler of California and brother-in-law, Marvin Zinnell of MN. He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Teresa Lynette Sigler; brothers, Russell, Richard, Roy, David and Robert Sigler and sisters, Elayne Young and Jean Zinnell. Lyman was raised on the family farm, attending country school and graduating from Litchfield High School class of 1946, later attending Kearney State. He was united in marriage to Margaret Lepant on October 15, 1949 at Broken Bow. They lived in Grand Island from 1950-1966, North Platte from 1966-1975, Heron, SD from 1975-1985, Sioux Falls, SD from 1985-1992, returning to Grand Island. Lyman was employed as a buyer and general office manager for Nash Finch for 37 years. Some of Lyman’s memberships included the Knights of Columbus, Platt Duetsch and served as president of the Lions Club. He and his wife enjoyed woodworking, mostly having made Christian displays. Lyman made the manikins for the Crisis Center. He enjoyed gardening, particularly roses, mums and garlic. He loved feeding the lucky squirrels, rabbits and birds. Lyman was a proud man of his Christian Faith and family. Special thank you to those who cared for him at Wedgewood and St. Francis Hospice. Memorials are suggested to St. Mary’s Food Pantry or the Crises Center.
