Marnell "Marty" L. Van Hoosen

Marnell “Marty” L. Van Hoosen, 85, of Grand Island, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 28, 2025, surrounded by her loving family at CHI St. Francis Hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 3, at All Faiths Funeral Home, with Dan Naranjo officiating. Burial will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 2, from 5 to 7 p.m. at All Faiths Funeral Home. Marty was born June 18, 1940, in Beemer, Nebraska, to Marvin and EdNell (Benson) Shors. She graduated from Grand Island Senior High with the class of 1958. On October 5, 1958, she married the love of her life, Ken Van Hoosen. They shared 56 years of love and devotion until his passing in 2015. In 1973, Marty began a long and fulfilling career at Hornady Manufacturing. Starting in the factory packing bullets, she worked her way up and retired as a National Sales Account Manager after 36 years. She was proud of her work, mentored many in the industry, and built lifelong friendships. Known for her radiant smile and contagious laugh, Marty made you feel like you were the most important person in the room even if you had just met. Marty will be remembered for her warm heart, quick laughter, and the love she shared so generously with family, friends, and all who knew her. She was active in her community, volunteering with the Grace Foundation and the CHAD Foundation, and serving as both a Boy Scout and Girl Scout leader. Marty enjoyed playing bridge, bowling, wine tasting, traveling with Kenny, and watching Jeopardy! with a good glass of wine. Marty looked forward to time spent with the class of ‘56 supper club. She especially loved time spent with her grandchildren and cheering on Husker sports. A devoted homemaker, she cherished the family home where she lived for 61 years. She was also a member of the Platte Duetsche Society, the Saddle Club, and the Liederkranz. Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Sheri and Scott Arnold of Grand Island, Todd Van Hoosen of Grand Island, Ty Van Hoosen of Glendale, Arizona, and Jacey and Shay McGowan of Grand Island; grandchildren: Shayla (John) Moore, Shanell (Dustin) McCabe, Shianne (Eric) Menke, Schuyler (Kim) Arnold Rose, Chad Van Hoosen, Alex (Kaeli) Van Hoosen, Jeseka Schoonover, Austin (Nicole) Van Hoosen, Madelyn (Luke) Luxford, Ethan (Abby) McGowan, and Evan (Therin Baum) McGowan; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ken; her parents; brother, Joe (Jolene) Shors; her in-laws; and several brothers and sister in-laws. Memorials are suggested to the family for designation at a later date.
