Michael R. Culp

Michael R. Culp, 61 of Grand Island, died on Tuesday, January, 13, 2015 at his home. Celebration of life services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, January 16, at All Faiths Funeral Home. David Lemburg and Dan Naranjo will officiate. To honor Michael’s wishes cremation has taken place. Michael was born on November 27, 1953 in Lincoln to Harold and Luella (Patterson) Culp. Michael is survived by his wife Janelle; stepchildren, whom he raised as his own, David (Debra) Lemburg of Grand Island, Lori Harris and fiancé, Doug Melton of York, and Wendy (Gerry) Smith of Grand Island; grandchildren, Eric (Christine) Harris of Central City, Mattea (James) DeBauche of Hastings, Dustin Smith (Lynn Taggart) of Las Vegas, Derek (Kendra) Lemburg of Cairo, Kaili Smith of Grand Island; great-grandchildren, Brayden and Emmaleigh Harris, Mathias DeBauche, Gavin Lemburg; sisters, Marilyn (Loren) Mathews of Omaha, Donna Culp of The Dalles, OR; brother, Jerry Culp of The Dalles, OR; along with many extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, and grandparents. Michael was raised and received his education in Grand Island attending, Newell School, Walnut Junior High School and Graduated from Grand Island Senior High School. While attending high school he was employed at Dub’s Sporting Goods. After graduating he worked for the Union Pacific Railroad, United Distillers, and Thompson Company. On September 7, 1974, he was united in marriage to Janelle Wissing in Lincoln. With this union he was blessed with three stepchildren. While employed for Chief Construction he worked locally and internationally, including, Saudi Arabia, Sinai and Pakistan. He worked for several other construction companies, in the U.S. as well as international. Later he was an independent contractor for many years in Madagascar and China. Currently he was employed by Central Confinement Service in Columbus as a construction superintendent. In his free time, Michael enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family for a college fund for his great-grandchildren he loved so dearly and for donations to charities to be designated by the family at a later date.
