Robert "Bob" Lessig

Robert “Bob” J. Lessig, 87 of Grand Island died Monday, November 23, 2015 at Wedgewood Care Center. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church. Reverend Jack Gillam will officiate. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Military honors will be rendered by the United Veterans Honor Guard and the Army. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at All Faiths Funeral Home. Mr. Lessig was born June 18, 1928 at Grand Island the son of John and Amanda (Kruse) Lessig. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Sherril; their children, Cindy (Tim) Madison of Grand Island, Jim (Kathy) Lessig of Littleton, CO and Cristi (Chris) Vanstrom of San Diego, CA; grandchildren, Shannon and Matt Duff, Breanna and Den Chandler, Kaitlyn and James Davis, Mackenzi Madison, Ashley and Tim Bradney, Jacob Lessig, Caleb Vanstrom and Patrick Vanstrom; great-grandchildren, Finn and Lucy Chandler and Hazel Duff; sisters, Marilyn Paustian and Delores (Harold) Langenheder both of Grand Island; brothers, John (Wyllie) Lessig of Grand Island, Arnold (Margie) Lessig of Fremont, Donald (Kate) Lessig of Lexington and Merle (Joyce) Lessig of York and sister-in-law, Eva Lessig. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister-in-law, Harold (Patsy) Lessig, brother, Raymond Lessig, sister, Eva Lessig and special uncle and aunt, Milvern and Alma Helmbrecht. Bob was raised on a farm near Grand Island attending St. John’s Lutheran School and graduating from Grand Island Senior High, class of 1945. He served in the U.S. Army from October 17, 1950 to September 19, 1952 during the Korean War. On September 16, 1956 he was united in marriage to Sherril Owings at Gothenburg. They lived in Gothenburg before moving to Grand Island in 1959. Bob was employed by Union Pacific Railroad for 39 years. He also was a Real Estate Agent for 29 years. They lived in St. George, Utah for 13 years before returning to Grand Island in 2014. Memberships included Trinity Lutheran Church and the American Legion. Bob enjoyed gardening, attending his grandkids events and his greatest enjoyment was his family. Memorials are suggested to Heartland Lutheran School.
