ROBERT ROHWEDER, 85 Robert Lee Rohweder, 85 of Grand Island went to be with his Lord on Thursday, September 24th at the Wedgewood Care Center. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Peace Lutheran Church. Reverend Michael Reiners will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island Cemetery with military honors rendered by the United Veterans Honor Guard and Nebraska Army National Guard. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday in the New Life Center at Peace Lutheran Church. All Faiths Funeral Home is serving the family. Mr. Rohweder was born on August 5, 1930, in Grand Island to George and Ella (Meyer) Rohweder. He married Arlene Ann Reher on March 20, 1955, at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Grand Island. They had recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Survivors include his wife, Arlene; 4 daughters and sons-in law, LeAnn and Michael Silvernagel, Tacoma, WA, Sharon and Richard McConnell, Panama City Beach, FL, Susan and Paul Black, Henderson, NV, and Diane and Mark Reega, Scottsdale, AZ; 15 grandchildren, Ashley(Jeff)Turittin, Mary Rohweder, Jennifer Rohweder, David Rohweder, Robert(Jessica)Silvernagel, Lindsay(Mike)Southwick, Marissa(Tyler)Wain, Christian McConnell, Emily McConnell, Cameron Black, Brittany Black, Austin Black, Garrett Black, John Reega, Jessica Reega, and 4 great-grandchildren, Sofia, Jacob and Michaela Southwick, and Cullen Black; brothers, Don (Elvera), Dale (Betty), Gary (Marcia), Alan (Patty), David (Arlene). He was preceded in death by his sons Melvin and Loren Rohweder, parents, and brother, George Rohweder. Robert grew up in Cairo and received his education at District 18 Elementary and St. Johns Parochial School. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War, entering on May 15, 1950, and was honorably discharged on December 15, 1951. He served in the reserves for the next 5 years. He worked for Bob Fagan as a cattle feeder and later worked at the Alfalfa Mill in Cairo. During that time he also farmed and worked for American Crystal in Grand Island. He then moved with his family to Drayton ND to work for American Crystal as a machine shop foreman for the next 31 years. Bob and his wife retired and moved back to Grand Island in 1996. He was a member of the Polka Club of North Dakota, Plattduetsche, VFW, Peace Lutheran Church and the Peace Core at Peace Lutheran. His hobbies include playing Sheepshead, hunting and fishing, dancing, and fixing things. Memorials are suggested to Heartland Lutheran Church or Peace Lutheran Church.
