Rosalie M. Chrystal

Rosalie M. Chrystal, 81, of Grand Island died peacefully Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at St. Francis Skilled Care, after a brave fight with pancreatic cancer. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 17th at Church of the Resurrection in Grand Island. Father Michael F. McDermott will officiate. Burial of ashes will be at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be no visitation. All Faiths Funeral Home is serving the family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Chrystal. Survivors left to cherish Rosalie's memory include a grandson, Seth(Tyler)Conaway of Phoenix, Arizona; granddaughter Amy (Joel)Van Pelt of Grand Island; great granddaughters Emma and Maddie Ulmer of Grand Island; beloved siblings Bonnie (Donald)Graff and Dean(Diane)Hugh of Grand Island and Marge(Wayne)Clark of Alliance; stepsons Dan Chrystal and wife, Roseanne, of Omaha and Bruce Chrystal and wife, Susan, of Pennsylvania; best friend and companion Charles Walz of Grand Island; son Bryce of North Platte; several nieces, nephews and cousins and the many, many dear friends she made throughout her life. Rosalie was born on December 12, 1932 in Alliance, Nebraska to Myron and Mamie (McGinnis) Pugh. She attended school in Alliance until the family moved to Ravenna, Nebraska in 1949. She fondly remembered the years spent on the family farm with her beloved parents, brothers, sisters and cousins. Rosalie married Robert W. Chrystal in 1973. The couple made their home in Grand Island, Nebraska, where she managed the Conoco Café and worked as a sales associate at JC Penney. She retired from Penney's in the mid 1990's. She worked with her husband, Robert, at the Holiday Conoco gas station on interstate 80 until his death in 2003. Rosalie joined Church of the Resurrection in Grand Island in 2011. Rosalie was a true "people person" and thrived on helping others. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed working in the yard, decorating her home, traveling, and ballroom dancing and playing bingo. She lit up a room with her effervescent personality and always made everyone around her feel safe and loved. She was preceded in death by her parents; two infant children; siblings Marilyn, Darlene, Delores, Kenneth and Dale and husband Robert. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in memory of Rosalie.
