Verla C. Bachman

Verla C. Bachman, 90 of Grand Island formerly of Giltner died Sunday, February 7, 2016 at Primrose Retirement Center. Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First Faith United Methodist Church at 4190 Capital Avenue, Grand Island. Reverend Trudy Kenyon Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in the Giltner Cemetery. There will be no visitation. All Faiths Funeral Home is serving the family. Mrs. Bachman was born May 16, 1925 at Giltner the daughter of Otto and Bessie (Detamore) Hunnicutt. Survivors include her children, Doug (Kathy) Bachman of Giltner, Denis (Catherine) Bachman of Giltner and Peggy (Phil) Smith of Aurora; sisters, Lavonne Ediger of Aurora, Betty (Bob) Ranard of Grand Island, Marleen (Marvin) Caspersen of Bolus; sisters-in-law, Lucille Hunnicutt of Grand Island and Viola Dolan of Long Beach, CA; brother-in-law, Harvey Bish of Aurora; grandchildren, Misty (Kevin) Muff, Krystal (Scott) Siebrandt, Lance (Ashley) Bachman, Trisha (Zachary) VanDiest, Sarah Bachman, Michael (Jamie) Bachman, Kacie (Jason) Highsmith, Kylee (Anthony) Hudson, Tyler Smith and great-grandchildren, Karlie and Tanner Muff, Kenzie and Camden Siebrandt, Landon Bachman, Benjamin, Lauryn and Olivia VanDiest, Jacob and Emily Bachman, Carter, Coleman, Cooper and Kerrison Highsmith and Sawyer, Lyla and Penelope Hudson. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl who died June 17, 1994; sister, Virginia Bish; brothers Eldon, Gerald and Loren Hunnicutt; sisters-in-law, Louise and Doris Hunnicutt and brothers-in-law, Keith Ernst and Ed Ediger. Verla attended all eight grades at a Mount Hope country school. She graduated from Giltner High School in 1942. She spent summers at Kearney State College and taught seven years in country school and substituted at Giltner Elementary. She was united in marriage to Earl Bachman on February 21, 1950. Along with being a teacher she raised her family and was a farmer’s wife. She is a member of the Giltner United Methodist Church, Circle and Extension Club. She enjoyed quilting having made a quilt for each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved poetry. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designations.
