Virginia A Bowman

Virginia “Virgie” A. Bowman, 96, of Grand Island passed away on Monday, May 20, 2024 at her home at Primrose Retirement Community surrounded by family. Gathering of friends and family will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2024 from 5 to 7 p.m. at All Faiths Funeral Home. A Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 31, 2024 at All Faiths Funeral Home. Pastor Scott Jones and Dan Naranjo will officiate. Burial will take place at 2:30 p.m. at Plainview Cemetery in Bradshaw, NE. Lunch will be provided following the 11 a.m. service at Third City Christian Church. All Faiths Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Connect program at Third City Christian Church. Virginia was born on December 7, 1927 at Beaver Crossing, daughter of Carl and Irene (Johnson) Burney. She grew up in the Utica and Bradshaw area. Virginia graduated from Bradshaw High School and earned her teaching certificate through York College. She then taught all grades in a one room school house, including her younger brother, Duane. On June 16, 1946, Virginia married Al P. Bowman, Jr. They made their home near Marquette where they ran the family farm until they moved to Grand Island in 1969. Following the move to Grand Island she was employed at Montgomery Ward for a period of time then as a cashier at Northwestern Public Service. Following her official retirement, she worked part time at Livingston Sonderman Funeral Home Virginia volunteered at many places including: Saint Francis gift shop and at Third City Christian Church. She put her past experience in teaching to work to help others through the Connect program at the church where she enjoyed helping young children with their learning. Virginia was a member of the VFW and enjoyed playing cards with friends. She was also in the Bell Choir at Primrose. Virginia was a wealth of knowledge and enjoyed any time with her family. She was steadfast in her faith and spent time in prayer, reading her Bible and bible studies. Virginia loved living close to her children and grandchildren and looked forward to their visits. She had a loving sense of humor (at times surprising) and cared for everyone. She is survived by her son, Carl P. Bowman of Lincoln; sister, Darlene (Burney) Bowman of York; four grandchildren; 16 great -grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; numerous extended family and friends. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Al Bowman, Jr.; daughter, Nancy (Bowman) Emken, son-in-law, Ronald Emken and brother, Duane Burney.
