William "Bill" Jack Shottenkirk

William “Bill” J. Shottenkirk, age 67, of Grand Island, passed away Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at the Grand Island VA Medical Center. A celebration of life service with military honors will be held Saturday, February 24th at 10:30am at Trinity United Methodist Church-Gollaher Chapel. Rev. Ray Stone officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7pm on Friday, February 23rd at All Faiths Funeral Home. Memorials suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, www.stjude.org. Condolences can be left at www.giallfaiths.com. Bill Was born August 11, 1956 to William Jack and Barbara (Pokorney) Shottenkirk. He attended Grand Island Public Schools and at the age of 17 enlisted in the United States Army. After the service he studied auto body repair. In May of 1979 Bill married Vicki Frederick and they made their home in Grand Island. He was employed as an electrician apprentice for several years. His family moved to Taylor where he worked construction on the building of the Calamus Dam. When the work was completed there the family moved to Columbus where he worked maintenance at the Schuyler Packing Plant. He was then offered a job for the City of Grand Island at the Burdick Power Plant, so back to his hometown they moved. Due to a back injury Bill needed to change his career path so he went back to school and received a degree in Industrial Technology. With that degree he was able to get a position at SunTech Industries. It is there he worked until his retirement. Bill was known by family and friends as being able to fix anything. His knowledge and skills will be greatly missed. He loved football, fishing (especially when friends and family stopped by to fish with him), woodworking, and helping Mike and Braydon with restoration of vehicles, wintering in Mesa, playing in pool leagues and meeting many new friends. Bill was especially proud of his children and grandchildren. Bill is survived by his wife, Vicki; children, Russell Shottenkirk and Jacqueline Caldwell; grandchildren, Jalyn (Angel) Andujo and Jalyssa Caldwell; brothers, Jerry (Marcia) Shottenkirk, Steve (Lillie) Shottenkirk and Tom (Lourie) Shottenkirk; sister and brother in-law, Charlie and Lyn Nelson; best friend and uncle, Mike Pokorney; along with aunts, nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by parents; sister and brother in-law, Janis and Melvin Meyer; nephew, Scott Shottenkirk and in-laws, Russell and Betty Frederick.
